To make sure your home is fire safe, we will provide fire equipment protection in your home.
All our homes have smoke alarms installed.
In some cases, we may also install fire doors, a full fire alarm system, emergency lighting or a sprinkler system.
We will come to your house and check the equipment to make sure it is working properly every year.
Other things you can do to help make sure your home is fire safe include:
- No naked flames should be present in your home. This includes candles.
- Turn off lights when you leave a room and before you go out.
- Turn off all electrical devices before you go to bed.
- Don’t leave tumble dryers running overnight or when you are out and clean them on a regular basis to remove the lint build up.
- Don’t plug in too many devices into one outlet or extension lead.
- Keep fire exits and doors clear.
- Test your smoke alarms at least once a week – make sure the alarms are working and replace batteries if needed.
- Make sure your furniture is fire-resistant and away from a heat source. Please only buy furniture from reputable sources and have the fire resistant symbol on your furniture.
- Your home shouldn’t need portable heaters. If you home is cold please contact Golden Lane Housing and we will see if your heating needs to be looked at. If you must use portable heaters make sure they are away from any clothing or bedding and not on for long periods of time – they can over heat and cause fires. An oil filled radiator is a much safer and economic way of adding extra heating to a room.
- Report any issues with your smoke alarms or fire safety devices immediately on 0300 003 7007, option 2.
