Tessa lives with Elizabeth and Katie in Northumberland supported by Mencap. Golden Lane Housing has been finding out what her real passion is.
“I’ve wanted to be an MP forever,” says Tessa. “I’m a Mencap Gateway Trustee but I want to do more. I’d like to be the voice for people with a learning disability. I’d get people’s views so I can explain to MPs what’s important and help people to get what they need.
I’d find out why people do things too, like bullying and hate crime and try to put a stop to it. Each person has different needs, some want help in general life and others with benefits.
There are lots of other people that I could help too, such as with mental health problems and disabilities. It’s not just about helping one person or someone in this country, it’s helping people around the world and changing attitudes. Everyone should live an equal life and have an equal quality of life.”
