Together with Mencap Volunteers, Irwin Mitchell Solicitors and HFT we completed a garden make over in Leeds.
Debbie, Linda and Samantha’s back garden was badly overgrown towards the rear and they could no longer access it. They decided it would be more beneficial to create a flagged area for low maintenance.
Golden Lane Housing (GLH) started the morning by removing bushes and cutting back a tree before 19 trainees arrived from Irwin Mitchell Solicitors. Following a short briefing work continued with painting fences, digging out roots in the back garden while the front was cleared of weeds and bushes cut back. Bulbs were planted in the borders and a bird table built before the lights decorated the tree.
“I’m really pleased with the front and back garden, they look fantastic,” says Debbie, GLH tenant.
Rod Dugher, head of housing explains, “It was a real pleasure to work with Mencap Volunteers and Irwin Mitchell trainees and we would like to thank them for their time. Their hard work has made a real difference as Debbie, Linda and Samantha will be able to fully utilise their garden and easily maintain it. The day was a resounding success and demonstrated the positive work partnerships can deliver in local areas. The volunteers from Irwin Mitchell were more than up for the gardening challenge and the results were fantastic.”
Marissa Sanders, graduate manager from Irwin Mitchell added, “The trainees had a great time working together to clear the garden and plant the bulbs. It was very rewarding seeing what a difference could be made with everyone working together and the garden should look very cheerful in the spring when the bulbs come through. We hope Debbie, Linda and Samantha get a lot of enjoyment from it.”
