We are delighted to announce that John Verge, chief executive of Golden Lane Housing has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) in London for his contribution to social advancement through his involvement with social housing, and commitment to providing housing services and support for people with a learning disability.

The Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts is an award granted to individuals whom the RSA judges deem to have made outstanding achievements for social progress and development. Previous Fellows have included Stephen Hawking, Charles Dickens, Karl Marx, Benjamin Franklin and Nelson Mandela.

The Fellowship is a network of people across the globe working together to resolve some of society’s most pressing issues. The RSA’s mission is to enrich society through ideas and action. Being awarded a Fellowship is considered an honour, and indicates significant standing in established society in 80 countries. Fellows must have demonstrated a high level of achievement related to the arts, manufactures and commerce.

Upon his appointment, John said, “I am delighted to be appointed a fellow of The RSA, joining thousands of inspiring people with strong values to change society. Throughout my time at Golden Lane Housing, working with passionate and dedicated colleagues, we have strived to resolve some of the housing and welfare issues facing people with a learning disability and their families across the UK.
