Upcoming changes to supported housing: what you need to know

February 26, 2025

The government is proposing significant reforms to the way supported housing is delivered in England. These changes, introduced under the Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act 2023, aim to improve standards and ensure that supported housing provides good quality accommodation and value for money.

A key proposal is the introduction of a locally led licensing system, which would require supported housing providers to meet certain conditions before operating. Alongside this, new National Supported Housing Standards are being developed to set clear expectations for the quality of care and support provided to residents.

There are also plans to review Housing Benefit regulations to ensure funding is directed towards high-quality provision and to prevent misuse. These changes could have a significant impact on how supported housing is funded and regulated across the country.

Golden Lane Housing is committed to providing safe, high-quality homes for people with a learning disability and autistic people.

We will continue to follow these developments closely to understand how they may affect our tenants and the wider supported housing sector.
