New video, information sessions and tenant representative launched during Safeguarding Adults Week 2022

This year, Golden Lane Housing (GLH) marked Safeguarding Adults Week (21st November – Sunday 27th November) by introducing its new tenant Safeguarding Representative, and held virtual sessions for all colleagues about GLH’s It Matters approach to safeguarding.

Mark Johnson, GLH tenant and Chair of More Voices, More Choices tenant committee has also been introduced as GLH’s tenant Safeguarding Representative. His role will be to work with the Safeguarding Leads and Housing Team to improve safeguarding services for tenants and make sure information is accessible.

Mark Johnson said: “”I am really happy to be the Safeguarding Rep because safeguarding is really important.”

Additionally this week, virtual sessions about safeguarding were led by members of the Housing Team, and Becky Arrowsmith, Head of Housing and Safeguarding Lead. The sessions gave GLH colleagues the opportunity to refresh their knowledge about safeguarding, and focused on issues around self neglect and learning from recent cases Housing Officers have dealt with and helped to achieve positive outcomes for.

An easy-read version of the Safeguarding Assurance Report 2021/2022 has been published this week. It gives an overview of the safeguarding concerns raised over 2021/2022. You can read this below.

A video on GLH’s safeguarding work has also been released this week aimed at informing tenants how GLH works to keep them safe. The video can be watched by clicking here.

Becky Arrowsmith said: “The wellbeing of our tenants is at the heart of all the work we do. Safeguarding is at the forefront of our minds all throughout the year, not just during Safeguarding Adults Week. We want our tenants to live happy and healthy lives and to feel safe in their homes, and we want them to know that we are here for them and will do everything we can to listen and to help keep them safe. We have achieved a lot this year as part of our It Matters approach, and I would encourage tenants and partners to read the Safeguarding Assurance Report 2021/22 which details improvements that are being made and work that is being carried out.

“This year, we also had the brilliant opportunity to have safeguarding leading organisation, the Ann Craft Trust, come and undertake a review of our safeguarding work. The outcome of the review was positive, and we have taken away some really good feedback on how we can make our approach to safeguarding even better.

“We want all of our staff, including those who do not work directly with tenants, to feel confident in raising any safeguarding concerns they have- no matter how big or small they may seem. All new staff members receive safeguarding training during their inductions and staff have regular refreshers to make sure they are updated with the latest procedures and contacts.”
