On 13 September 2015, Marie Howorth, housing manager is taking on the Tough Mudder challenge to raise money for Mencap.
People with a learning disability are among the most excluded in today’s society. Mencap’s vision is a world where they are valued equally, listened to and included.
Set the beautiful surrounds of the Cholmondeley Estate in Cheshire, Marie will push herself to the limit over 10-12 miles obstacle course of harsh terrain through dark forest trails and open parkland and thick, heavy mud.
“After having my third child I was determined to lose the weigh gained, setting goals as I went along. So far, I’ve lost 2.5 stone in two years by going to a fantastic Boot Camp class in Rawtenstall. I’ve got lean muscle, something I’ve never had before.
Tough Mudder is a huge personal challenge for me and I want others to benefit from it. As a Mother of three and working full time, training is a big commitment, I’ve managed it so far – just!
My son Lucas has autism. I know what having the right support means for him and our family. Working for Mencap I see first hand what a difference the right support can make and this is just one small thing I can do to give back and raise awareness. Please help me to help make a difference!
Our Tough Mudder team has a moto, ‘we are not just taking part we are taking over’, so I want to take over for Mencap and champion our amazing organisation.”
