Maryline was one of 11 people with a learning disability living in old, dated properties in West Wickham. Maryline has high support needs and uses a wheelchair, she required somewhere with more space and facilities more suited to her needs.
Bromley PCT approached GLH to discuss new accommodation options for Maryline the others. Funding was secured, and a plan was drawn up to redevelop the existing properties.
Maryline’s old home was almost completely demolished and development began on a brand new complex of chalet-style bungalows.
Maryline now lives in her own self-contained apartment with access to a private, modern bathroom and technology adapted to her specific needs.
Her life has been completely transformed by her new place:
“”I always feel comfortable and really look forward to returning home to my own place after I have been out. I enjoy telling my family and friends that I have my own place and it feels great to finally have my own home.”
