Private renting
Creating a bridge between private sector landlords and people with a learning disability.
There are a number of ways that GLH help private sector landlords and people with a learning disablity work together by:
- Supporting people to explore what options and opportunities there are in the private sector.
- Matching people with a learning disability to private sector landlords.
- Supporting people through the renting process.
- Acting as an intermediary to overcome issues and problems people face in dealing with private landlords before and during their tenancy.
Great Tenants not only acts as a ‘match-making service’, it also:
- Highlights to private landlords the advantages of housing people with learning disabilities (including explaining how benefits and the local housing allowance can work to form an attractive secure market rent).
- Provides housing advice and support to individuals.
- Puts individuals seeking shared accommodation with like-minded people
GLH is currently carrying out two pilot projects
We also intend rolling out further Great Tenant services throughout the country.
