Rented housing

We acquire houses to help you.

We believe that people with a learning disability should not be denied the right to choose where, with whom and how they live their lives. All too often people with a learning disability are fitted into what already is available rather than being given the right to choose.

Since being established in 1998, GLH has bridged the gap between private and public sector housing, and increased the pool of social rented housing by purchasing ordinary houses in ordinary streets around which people with a learning disability can build their lives.

By acquiring properties from the open market in specific locations, and adapting them to meet the needs of identified individuals with a learning disability, we have been able to provide good quality rented housing that is indistinguishable from any other housing from the outside.

In order to fund this approach, we work in partnership with local authorities, health authorities, support providers, companies and individuals. We also borrow money from the private sector.
