Tenants painting training
One of Golden Lane Housing’s contractors, Seddon Property Services, held a taster training event that enabled some of our tenants to gain more knowledge about painting and decorating.
This fantastic event began with a theory session explaining ways to keep safe whilst decorating, using the right tools for the job and concluded with tenants designing their own colour schemes for a room. The real fun started in the afternoon as everyone got the chance to get hands on with the painting and wallpapering. At the end of the day each tenant was provided with a goodie bag of free brushes and a Crown Paints voucher entitling them to a free tin of 5L emulsion paint.
Debbie, a GLH tenant asked the training manager at Seddon, ‘When can we come back again!’
Housing more people!
The new financial year has got off to a flying start with our Housing Team in the South-West providing housing solutions to 4 people with a learning disability since the beginning of April 2010.
Working within our existing housing stock in Oxford, Wales, Gloucester and Cornwall, the Housing Team has liaised closely with Social Services, support providers and family members to explore new opportunities for people to share with others, whilst having no detrimental impact on the quality of the home and the people already living there.
Our new tenants have now been given opportunities to start building their lives in a safe and secure environment with the support packages to meet their needs.
Due to mobility issues, one of our tenants in Oxfordshire has found it very difficult to continue to use the first floor of the house she lives in. We wanted to ensure that our tenant remained in the environment that she knew well with the people she was so fond of. We worked with Social Services to agree a way forward and to find a solution that would clearly meet our tenant’s needs. Social Services agreed to fund an extension to the property which would allow our tenant to live on the ground floor, assisting with her mobility problems. This work created a vacancy which has provided a new housing solution for another person with a learning disability.
