Getting to know our tenants

London Zoo

Seddon Property Services Ltd (SPS), one of Golden Lane Housing’s (GLH) national contractors wanted to spend more time getting to know our tenants and their support teams. They thought it would be a great idea to sponsor three day trips around the country for GLH tenants. Members of SPS teams went along with over 30 of our tenants with their support workers on the day trips; each of them had a different experience to offer.

The first day trip was held in the North. Avid football fans were taken on a guided tour around Manchester United’s Football stadium and museum. The tenants had access to many areas including the dressing room and dug out and took great pleasure in creating two lines to walk down the tunnel to a prefabricated noise resembling the beginning of a game. During lunch they sat in the chairs of their favourite football player in the Red Cafe, but for many, the highlight of the day was the trophy room.

The South West was home to the next event. Tenants were invited to visit Plymouth National Marine Aquarium, the first aquarium in the United Kingdom to be set up solely for the purpose of education, conservation and research. It remains one of Britain’s foremost aquariums and is home to three tanks, one of which is the deepest tank in Britain holding 2.5 million litres of water.  These displayed over 4000 animals from 400 species.

One of the great outcomes of the day was when two tenants who had never met before found they enjoyed the same outdoor activities; they exchanged telephone numbers and hope to meet on a regular basis.

The final outing was in London. The group travelled by river bus to London Zoo, the world’s oldest scientific zoo founded over 180 years ago in Regent’s Park. The zoo is divided up into many different areas and there are plenty of animals to see including lions camels, giraffes, penguins, tigers and meerkats.  With 1,200 different species, it is the largest collection of animals in the UK.

Throughout the day the tenants were trying to decide what their favourite animal was, the penguin seemed to come out on top! It was a fantastic day and everyone took away a reminder of the day in the shape of a key ring or a bookmark of their favourite animal.

Homma from GLH said that it was great to see the tenants interacting with each other and hopefully will create long term friendships.
