Golden Lane Housing work hard to be more than just a landlord.
Golden Lane Housing believes that every individual should be able to chose where to live, who to live with and how they wish to live their lives. We believe that having a safe and secure home helps people to achieve their full potential, provides them with the self-respect they deserve and helps them to become more independent and more able to contribute to the wider community.
Traditional housing approaches place tenants in empty houses but GLH adopts a person-centred approach.
Our starting point is always the individual – we listen to where a person wishes to live and what facilities they need to enable them to gain independence.
Our tenants often tell us they want to live in neighbourhoods they already know, close to their family and friends, near to familiar transport routes, shops and local facilities.
We then help people get the housing they need by:
- Purchasing houses with local authority or other grant funding that individuals can then rent from GLH.
- Helping people access existing social rented housing – e.g. local authority and housing associations.
- Supporting people in accessing housing in the private rented sector, including working with landlords and private sector developers.
- Helping families plan for the future – including working in partnership with Mencap to help people use discretionary trusts.
We build strong relationships with tenants, families, support agencies and social services. We remain in regular contact with tenants in order to help them manage and maintain their homes and make everyday living more manageable.
